How to Wire Dongguan Diesel Generator Sets
Dongguan diesel generator sets are essentially self-excited salient-pole three-phase four-wire synchronous generators with third-harmonic output. Due to their high power output and suitability for mobile applications, they are widely used in factories, mines, construction sites, and similar settings. Although generator windings vary by power rating, the basic circuit connection remains consistent:
Wiring Process: The Dongguan diesel generator set outputs four wires. One wire marked “N” is the neutral wire. The other three wires are live wires. The three-phase load must be balanced. To put it simply, if the generator is rated at 15KW and currently powers a 5KW three-phase motor,
connecting an additional 2KW single-phase motor could likely cause three-phase imbalance. For standalone single-phase use, select any one of the three live wires as the phase line. Connect an additional neutral wire to create a single-phase circuit. Alternatively, you can isolate a single phase for use. However, the connected equipment must not be too powerful, as this can easily cause three-phase imbalance. Additionally, the capacity of the three-phase diesel generator must be considered. For smaller generators, it is recommended to connect to three-phase power. This allows for connecting lighting and similar loads. Connecting high-power appliances is not advised.
Wiring Precautions: When wiring Kangwo diesel generator sets, observe the following points:
1. The ground wire connection point is typically located at the rear end of the generator set chassis. When installing the ground wire, connect it to a suitable grounding location.
2. The connection of the AC generator's neutral grounding wire is usually determined during user installation. When the diesel generator set serves as the sole power source, the neutral wire must be directly connected to the factory grounding line.
3. For more complex installations, select a neutral grounding point to ensure proper operation of the diesel generator set or protect equipment, such as detecting ground faults and minimizing ground loop currents.
4. Grounding wire arrangements should follow user and local authority recommendations.
5. Ensure the equipment wiring is always effectively maintained. Maintenance of the wiring system must strictly follow the instruction manual.
To achieve accurate wiring for diesel generator sets, first identify whether the terminals or leads are phase or neutral. Typically, each terminal or lead on the generator is marked to distinguish between phase and neutral. With careful attention, identification is straightforward: neutral terminals are often marked with the letters M or O, or may feature a grounding symbol beside the connection.
If the neutral terminal lacks clear markings, verify its function using a voltmeter while the generator is running. Never attempt to determine the neutral by touching it with a live wire.
